Meet the conductors who bring the music to life each week.
John has conducted for over thirty years as an adjunct to his career as a musical performer. He is the Timpanist Emeritus of The Florida Orchestra, and teaches at the Kinhaven Music School, Hillsborough Community College, and St. Petersburg College, where he has conducted the band and orchestra for ten years.
He has also served as timpanist of orchestras in Anchorage, Oklahoma City, Mexico City, Honolulu, and the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder. John received his early musical training in the public schools in Anchorage, Alaska and St. Petersburg, where he graduated from Northeast High School.
John earned degrees in Percussion Performance from the University of South Florida (BA), the University of Michigan (MBA), and in Instrumental Conducting (DMA) from the University of Miami.
Raised in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, Debbie attended Mansfield University for her BS degree and Indiana University for her Master of Arts degree.
Most of Debbie’s teaching career was spent in Pennsylvania’s Armstrong school district, where she taught everything in their music curriculum — including marching band, concert choirs, music appreciation, music theory, theatre production, and general music at both the high school and elementary levels. Debbie was an officer of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association for many years.
Both Debbie and her husband play in the St. Petersburg Community Band and also perform in The Second Winds and The Florida Symphonic Winds, which tours internationally every other summer.
Our directors welcome musicians of all backgrounds. Come to a rehearsal and see for yourself.
